Ed Lust creates traditional & digital art in Aotearoa.
For twenty years I have exhibited an array of painting, film, video art, and installation, in New Zealand and internationally.
My work is playful, obsessive, and quietly existential, shaped by my own queer and neurodivergent experiences.
My work has existed across many mediums over the years.
Currently I'm increasingly drawn back to physical making... painting, writing, especially works that can transform space.
My paintings develop through layering and overpainting, building depth slowly, often over weeks to years, and sometimes sanding most of it away. My films tend to be painterly. My paintings think in time. What connects them is an interest in emotional states that don't have clean names, and the aesthetics of life's more nuanced experiences.
